Wham-O Ultimate Frisbee Discs
The Ultimate Frisbee disc's first plastic mold and history began in 1948 by inventors Walter Frederick Morrison and his partner Warren Franscioni. Wham-O purchased the design in 1957 and massed produced the toy used to toss around between friends. The Wham-O Frisbee disc is the original professional plastic mold created in 1964 which included stabalizing ridges in the design thanks to Wham-O's inventor, Ed Headrick. In 1967 college students incorporated the Frisbee disc in a game called "Ultimate Frisbee" making the Wham-O Ultimate Frisbee® Disc the original disc of the sport. Discraft Ultra-Star Discs
The Discraft Ultra-Star Ultimate disc was received with open arms when it was introduced in 1982 with a plastic mold differing from it's predecessor, the Wham-O Ultimate Frisbee Disc. The Ultra-Star™ was designed with a deeper grip, and aerodynamic engineering of 175 grams that allowed for longer flights and greater consistancy which exploded it's popularity and in 1991 became the official disc of USA Ultimate, the US governing body of the sport. Today the Discraft Ultra-Star™ Ultimate Disc maintains its sturdy reputation and is held as the standard disc used in Ultimate today.
